Wakehurst Place Peg Tiles

Wakehurst Place Peg Tiles

Spicer Tiles was proud to work alongside DBR on the major conservation of Wakehurst Place, the Grade I listed 16th century mansion in West Sussex cared for by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Working within a site of exceptional heritage value, DBR led the carpentry and re-roofing works between 2022 and 2024, renewing the historic coverings while preserving the character of one of the country’s most important botanical estates.

To meet the demands of the project, we crafted a bespoke peg tile blend, carefully matched in colour, texture and weathered tone to sit seamlessly alongside salvaged Horsham Stone. Every tile was made to suit the architectural significance of the building and the standards required by a live, public-facing conservation site.

The result is a roof that honours the past, performs for the future, and reflects the level of craftsmanship Wakehurst deserves.
